Anne Guerrant played tennis on the women’s pro tour for nine years and competed at Wimbledon and the US Open many times. She defeated players like Martina Navratilova and Billie Jean King and was ranked as high as #11 in the world. She is one of the founding members of the Women’s Tennis Association and helped women achieve equal prize money at the US Open back in 1973.
During her tennis career she traveled to 49 countries and witnessed shocking, desperate poverty in third world countries which both humbled and inspired her to take action to help the world’s poor. During this period she learned about micro credit lending, specifically a program created in Bangladesh by Nobel Peace winning Muhammed Yunus. Yunus’s program launched a worldwide movement to help women become economically independent.
After Anne retired from her second career as a real estate entrepreneur in 2005, she decided to dedicate her efforts to helping women full time.
Today Anne is a passionate advocate, speaker, fundraiser, and donor for micro credit lending. Over 100 million of the world’s poorest women have been helped by using tiny loans to start small businesses.
Anne has traveled to India, Mexico, and Africa, to see lending programs firsthand and to meet and talk with women micro entrepreneurs. She and her husband, Terry, have started the Guerrant Foundation. Their goal is to personally give a million dollars and to raise another million to help the poorest of the poor.
