START SMART CAMPAIGN

Scottsdale Unified School District’s START SMART campaign kicks off on Friday, August 19^th. Teachers and staff will be walking our neighborhoods with door hangers in hand reminding parents that school starts on Monday, August 22^nd.

In order for our students to remain competitive, each learning day counts!  Every year in the Valley, thousands of students miss the first days of school. Not only does this put those students at a disadvantage, it results in a loss of funding for school districts.  Last year in Scottsdale, 1,200 students missed the first day of school causing a loss of about $60,000 per day, a very significant drop in state funding.

With a new later start date this year, families in Scottsdale will be able to complete vacations before school begins hopefully ensuring better attendance.  More students in school the first day means more learning and more funding which supports the outstanding educational programs and schools in Scottsdale.
