A Career in Healthcare Starts Here
for Valley High School Students

Scottsdale, Ariz. (April 30, 2024) – HonorHealth, a leading healthcare system serving more than five million people in the greater Phoenix and Scottsdale area, invites high school students interested in healthcare to apply for the 2024-2025 HonorHealth Explorers Clubs.

“HonorHealth Explorers Club is a student-run organization where students interact with healthcare professionals and do hands-on activities” says Melissa Mahon, HonorHealth volunteer relations specialist. “We have three medical explorers clubs and a nursing explorers club that meet one evening a month and students help decide meeting topics based upon the interests of the group.”

The Medical Explorers Club is offered at HonorHealth John C. Lincoln, Thompson Peak and Deer Valley Medical Centers. Students will learn from nurses, physicians and other professionals about medical education and career paths. In the past, Medical Explorers Clubs have dissected sheep brains with a neurologist, wrapped casts with an orthopedic surgeon, learned how to prep for surgery and sutured bananas with an emergency room physician assistant.

The Nursing Explorers Club will meet at the HonorHealth Center of Clinical Excellence near Deer Valley Medical Center with a focus on the nursing profession and getting into nursing school. Previous clubs have learned to insert an IV with a med-surg nurse, read blood pressure with an ICU nurse and dissect a pig heart with a respiratory therapist.

The program runs August through May and is open to teens who will be in grades 9 through 12. Applications will be accepted from May 7 through June 18 at noon. For more information on the Explorer Club program and to apply, visit honorhealth.com/community/volunteer-opportunities/teen.
