A local school nurse received an unexpected back-to-school surprise as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona recognized her dedication to students and families during the annual Yoga on the Field event at Chase Field.

Held in partnership with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Yoga on the Field brought hundreds of Arizonans together to focus on physical and mental well-being before the D-backs game against the Cincinnati Reds. As part of the event, AZ Blue surprised a school nurse from the Alhambra Elementary School District with classroom supplies and a donation to purchase a new laptop, helping provide resources that support students throughout the school year.

Event attendees also joined the effort by donating school supplies, including notebooks, pencils, crayons, glue sticks and other classroom essentials.

"School nurses play a critical role in supporting students' health, well-being and ability to succeed in the classroom," said Paul Penzone, Chief Community Relations Officer at AZ Blue. "We are proud to recognize one of these everyday heroes and help provide resources that will benefit students and families throughout the school year."

The surprise reflects AZ Blue's ongoing commitment to strengthening Arizona communities and supporting those who help children learn, grow and thrive. By combining wellness, community engagement and giving back, the event highlighted the positive impact that collective action can have on local schools.

Yoga on the Field is one of several community-focused initiatives supported by AZ Blue and the Arizona Diamondbacks to promote healthier communities across Arizona.
