More Than 200 AZ Blue Employees Pack 1,000 JoyJars for Arizona Children Fighting Cancer
PHOENIX, Ariz. — More than 200 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona employees recently came together to pack 1,000 JoyJars® for children across Arizona who are undergoing cancer treatment.
Organized in partnership with the Jessie Rees Foundation, the volunteer effort provided each child with a jar filled with toys, games, activities and handwritten notes of encouragement designed to bring comfort, hope and joy during a difficult time.
JoyJars were created by Jessie Rees during her own battle with cancer. Her mission was to encourage children facing similar challenges and remind them that they are not alone. Today, the Jessie Rees Foundation continues her legacy by delivering JoyJars and messages of support to children fighting cancer.
This marks the ninth consecutive year AZ Blue has partnered with the Jessie Rees Foundation, demonstrating the organization’s continued commitment to supporting Arizona children, families and communities.
The volunteer project was part of AZ Blue in Action, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona’s statewide, boots-on-the-ground initiative that brings together employee volunteerism, community partnerships and philanthropy to improve the health and well-being of Arizonans.
AZ Blue’s commitment to strengthening communities is supported by employees throughout the organization, including the community reinvestment work carried out by AZ Blue Health Choice.
Through projects such as the JoyJar packing event, AZ Blue employees are helping create meaningful moments of encouragement while supporting families navigating the challenges of childhood cancer.
