New six-week academy prepares entrepreneurs to compete in the airport concessions marketplace
PHOENIX – Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is accepting applications for its new Aviation Business Lab, a six-week, academy-style program designed to help small businesses understand, enter and succeed in the airport concessions environment.

Business owners will gain valuable insight into the aviation procurement process, small business certification, financial readiness and the unique demands of operating within a 24-hour airport environment.
“The Aviation Business Lab is designed to help promising small businesses better understand the airport concessions marketplace and prepare themselves to compete,” said Sarah Moratto, Small Business Engagement Manager for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. “Participants will leave the program with greater knowledge, stronger industry connections and practical tools that can support their long-term growth.”
Program topics will include:
- How airport concessions operate
- An overview of the aviation procurement process
- Small business certification fundamentals
- Operating in a 24/7 airport environment
- Financial readiness and business planning
Classes will be held Wednesday evenings from August 26 through September 30. Dates are subject to change. Space is limited, and applications must be submitted by Friday, July 31.
