Residents Invited to Participate in Scottsdale’s Interactive Walking Events for Transportation Safety Plan

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (October 2025) — The City of Scottsdale is inviting residents to share their insights and experiences to help shape the city’s Transportation Safety Plan through a series of interactive walking events on Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25.

These short, conversational walks will be held in four Scottsdale neighborhoods — Vista del Camino (Roosevelt St. & Miller Rd.), McCormick Ranch (Mountainview Community Center), Grayhawk, and McDowell Mountain Ranch (Horizon Park). Each session provides residents a hands-on opportunity to share what they love—and what challenges they encounter—when walking, biking, or driving around the city.

Each walk will last approximately 45–60 minutes, covering about a quarter- to half-mile. The experience will conclude with a brief discussion and feedback session. All ages and abilities are welcome; participants using mobility devices or strollers are encouraged to join. Participation is free, but reservations are required.

Event Schedule

    Friday, Oct. 24 | 8:00–10:00 a.m.

Led by National Experts
The walking assessments will be led by Dan Burden, an internationally recognized authority on livable and sustainable communities, and Betty Drake, a Scottsdale-based transportation planner. Together, they’ll guide participants in identifying ways to make Scottsdale’s neighborhoods safer and more enjoyable for all travelers.

How to Participate
Residents can sign up for the event nearest their neighborhood and will receive an email with details about the meet-up location and tips for preparing for the walk. Minor children must be accompanied by an adult.
Participants are also encouraged to suggest other areas of the city for future walking assessments and to indicate any accessibility or language needs during registration.

Why It Matters
Feedback gathered during these events will help city planners develop Scottsdale’s comprehensive Transportation Safety Plan, a community-driven effort to improve safety and connectivity for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers alike.
